How to Export to Adobe Audition

Export your transcripts from Simon Says directly into Adobe Audition

Jan 23, 2022

Wouldn’t it be a huge time-save if you could mark the selects in your transcript and then have those corresponding clips — and their transcripts— available in your audio editing software for you or your podcast editor to immediately start cutting with? YES! And now you can.

If you are working with Adobe Audition, the audio editing software commonly used to put together podcasts (or any other nonlinear editing software), you can now transcribe your interviews in Simon Says and directly import the bookmarked clips, or even the entire media file organized into clips, into your post-production software.

Here’s how:

(follow the instructions below or in the video. To see video subtitles in a different language, click the Setting icon in the video and select from an available language in Subtitles/CC)

  1. Once your media file (that is, the audio or video file you uploaded) is transcribed in Simon Says, click the Export button:
Click Export

2. A pop-up will appear (like in the image below). Select “Adobe Audition” from the options and often you will want to check “only bookmarks” so you can just get the key parts of the interview you want.

If you don’t select “only bookmarks” you will get your entire media file broken into clips that correspond with the transcript rows.

Select Adobe Audition

Click “Let's do this” and download the ZIP file. Unzip it and you will find an *.xml file.

3. Open Adobe Audition and then go to the “File” menu and click “Import…” like this:

4. An Import/file chooser box will pop up. Navigate to the folder that contains the XML file and select it.

5. A Link Media box will pop up. Click “Link Media…” at the bottom right.

Click “Link Media…” at the bottom right

Then navigate to where the media file which you uploaded to Simon Says is on your computer. Select it.

6. TaDa! The Adobe Audition sequence will connect to the reference media file and you will see a timeline with the corresponding clips that matches what you saw (uh hem, heard!) on Simon Says.

In the “Markers” window, you will see your clips with the transcripts and the speaker names if you marked them on Simon Says. You can also easily search the transcript such as for keywords that correspond to the pertinent clips.

Now how much time will this save in identifying the right quotes in the right clips for your edit?!

*If you have multiple files in your Simon Says project and you want to bring each one directly into Adobe Audition, you will need to follow the above Export steps (starting at Step 1) for each file individually.
