About

We know how terribly painful transcription services for audio and video can be: it takes days and costs a lot of $$$. So we built Simon Says where Simon turns your media files into the written form -- in a fraction of the usual time and cost.

Simon Says is an automated transcription and translation service using advanced artificial intelligence: upload your audio/video and swiftly receive the transcripts.

Simon is not perfect; there will be misheard words (eg. cereal for Syria) and missed punctuation. But if you want swift transcription with synchronized timecode (where the transcript matches the uploaded files’ original timecode), bookmarking and annotations so you can quickly identify those meaningful parts of that interview, lecture, or recording, Simon is for you.

We hope Simon frees up the creators and researchers from the essential yet mundane tasks so you can go back to putting your mark on the world.

Sign up to Simon Says today.

4 Steps to Swift Transcription:

  1. Create a project and select the files you want to transcribe.
  2. Pay and then grab a latte, ideally easy on the sugar.
  3. Boom. Transcripts are ready.
  4. Edit it, bookmark key sentences, annotate it and export it into your Word, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition, FCP X and others.

About

Filmmaker + Technologist. I love interviewing people and hearing them reflect on their formative experiences.

Person I’d like to interview (living or deceased)

Cleopatra. Because there are just so many unanswered questions to ask!

A documentary I want to make

My father's story as he worked his way through an impoverished upbringing to achieve the “Canadian dream” and live a life defined by kindness, decency, hard work and modesty so that his kids may have a better future. I know, not exactly a blockbuster but a personal tale I’d like to memorialize for my family.

I wish I was a fly on the wall when

Muhammad Ali Jinnah gave his first Presidential Address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan (Aug 11, 1947)...“If you change your past and work together in a spirit that every one of you, no matter to what community he belongs, no matter what relations he had with you in the past, no matter what is his colour, caste, or creed, is first, second, and last a citizen of this State with equal rights, privileges, and obligations, there will be no end to the progress you will make.”

What I do with extra time recouped (from automated transcription)

I spend more time understanding the subject from his/her point of view.

I also have more time for pickling radishes. And okra. :)

Person(s) I’d like to interview (living or deceased)

My two grandfathers, together, in the same room. Both crossed the world and made their way with major adversity. I wish I could talk to them about it.

A documentary I want to watch (again)

Hearts of Darkness. It was shocking enough that studios allowed films like “Apocalypse Now” to be made, but to hear of how this one was made, the intense situations, and Francis Ford Coppola pecking away at a typewriter during monsoon season just blew me away.

I wish I was a fly on the wall when

David Bowie was recording “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” and/or the Rolling Stones recording “Exile on Main Street.” These two albums are forever burned in my brain, so full of emotion and passion.

What I do with extra time recouped

I have so many rolls of film that need to be scanned and organized… too many to think about, so I’ll spend the time swimming with my kids.

Software Developer who is a stickler for clean, elegant and efficient code.

I'm not an introvert but I really enjoy my time at home (I know, how stereotypical: a dev who loves being home!). And I’m waiting for someone to invent a device to travel back into time.

Person I’d like to interview (living or deceased)

Albert Einstein: he was an intriguing person and I want to ask him more about his scientific theories. Plus there are rumors he was popular with women...what was his secret? 🤔

A documentary I want to watch

“Through The Wormhole: Is Time Travel Possible?” I know, I know, more about time traveling.

I wish I was a fly on the wall when

John F. Kennedy was assassinated. ...I never thought of myself as a conspiracy theorist but…

What I do with extra time recouped

When I'm not coding or pushing pixels, you'll find me watching sci-fi movies or listening to edm music though never concurrently. Well, not usually.

William Shakespeare - I would like to ask how he came up with his ideas.

A documentary I want to watch

Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey - A documentary series that explores how we discovered the laws of nature and found our coordinates in space and time.

I wish I was a fly on the wall in the air when

the Wright Brothers succeeded with their first flight. I am in awe of great inventors and their genius.

Watch more Bollywood movies, duh. :)

Person I’d like to interview (living or deceased)

Zadie Smith. I truly admire her work. Her voice is so authentic, and her work is so elevated. Her novels motivate me to be the best writer I can be, and I’d love to know more about her process…and just to talk about everyday things.

A documentary I want to watch

Chavela. I recently went to a cabaret performance about the life and songs of Chavela Vargas. I was immediately intrigued. She was so true to herself in everything she did. I’m dying to know more.

I wish I was a fly on the wall when

Junot Diaz was writing The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. It’s one of my favorite reads from this year, and I’d love to know how the story came to fruition.

What I do with extra time recouped

What every writer does…attempt to finish the project I’ve been working on all year.

Socrates, to understand who he really was (and maybe shake hands with Plato and Aristotle while I'm at it).

A documentary I want to watch

"Saving capitalism" by Steve Reich to understand better the situation in the US.

I wish I was a fly on the wall when

They shut the door of the Apollo 11 mission to go to the moon. OK, I might have died soon after but... SPACE!

What I do with extra time recouped

What extra time??? (I have 3 kids and a dog to take care of.)

I'm currently learning Japanese and to play drums.
